A Great Race For New Triathletes!
Swim
The swim course is an out and back course, starting in front at the Minnesota Power Picnic Area Beach and proceeding East to the turn-around point. Swimmers keep swim buoys on right-hand side for entire swim. A neutral area, marked with buoys, where there are no swimmers, will separate swimmers on the outbound and return legs of the swim. Swim course is monitored by lifeguards in kayaks. Water temperatures are typically between 72 and 76 degrees. If this is the case on race morning wetsuits will be allowed as this falls within USA Triathlon guidelines. (Please refer to the USAT website for details of the rules).
Bike
The Bike Course is simply a great course. The out and back course is very fast on tar. The course is extremely beautiful, passing endless miles of woods and water. The bike begins at the Minnesota Power Picnic Area, across from the Island Lake Inn. Although open to traffic, St. Louis County Highway #4 is lightly traveled and will be intensely marshaled by USAT officials. Ride time air temperatures generally range from the low 60′s early in the morning to daytime highs between 80 and 90 degrees.
Run
The run course is an out and back run that starts and finishes at the Minnesota Power Picnic Area. The scenic run is on a mix of gravel and new tar and heads north along St. Louis County Road #4 along the shore of Island Lake. Three aid stations are located on the run course. The race-course is open to residents of the road. Please make sure you run on the right shoulder of the road. The short course does a loop down to the boat landing.
